Sandblasting uses compressed air as the power to form a high-speed jet beam to spray materials (copper ore, quartz sand, diamond sand, iron sand, Hainan sand) onto the surface of the workpiece to be treated at high speed, causing changes in the appearance or shape of the outer surface of the workpiece. Due to the impact and cutting effects of the abrasive on the workpiece surface, the workpiece surface obtains a certain degree of cleanliness and different roughness, The mechanical properties of the workpiece surface are improved, thereby improving the fatigue resistance of the workpiece, increasing its adhesion to the coating, prolonging the durability of the coating film, and also facilitating the leveling and decoration of the coating.

After extrusion forming of industrial aluminum profiles, there will be obvious tensile lines on the surface, and the surface has large micropores, which are relatively rough. It is necessary to undergo sandblasting treatment. The impact of diamond sand during sandblasting will cause changes in the surface structure of the aluminum profile, accompanied by crystal slip during plastic deformation, resulting in an increase in dislocation density within the subgrain and a smoother surface of the profile.

For sandblasting equipment operators, only by proficiently mastering safety operating procedures can they know how to avoid accidents during production operations.

1. The protective door of the sandblasting work area of the sandblasting machine must be interlocked with the sandblasting machine and comply with the startup sequence requirements: the sandblasting machine cannot be started unless the door is opened to stop sandblasting;

2. Requirements for the sequence of fan opening: first turn on the fan and then turn on the sandblasting equipment; Requirement for fan stop sequence: First turn off the sandblasting equipment and wait for a period of time before stopping the fan;

3. If the inlet/outlet of the conveyor belt and the mechanical rotating parts are exposed, a fully covered protective cover must be installed to avoid dust escape or sand leakage;

4. On site operators are prohibited from wearing chemical fiber clothing;

5. On site operators must wear earplugs.

The amount of shot blasting time depends on the shot blasting effect generated by the workpiece during the shot blasting process, and the principle is to achieve the required shot blasting strength. (Usually around 30 minutes)

Additionally, it should be noted that shot peening strength is now mostly measured using Almen's arc height gauge as described in the American SAE standard J442. Almen arc height gauge is a 70 gauge carbon steel with a thickness of 0.8, 1.3, or 2.4mm standard dimensions, with a hardness of HRC44-50. The sample is fixed on a special fixture, and one side is shot blasted. Then, the arc height of the bent steel bar sample is measured using an arc height gauge to obtain the shot blasting strength.
