Calculation formula of wire cutting speed

There are many factors that affect the finish in WEDM. Assuming that other processing conditions and environments are constant, the correlation between processing speed and finish can be reflected. The main reasons can be divided into two aspects: discharge energy and processing discharge.


In on-line cutting, the normal processing current of ordinary wire cutting is about 3 ~ 4a, while that of high-speed machine tools such as large iron machine is about 5A. When the processing current is less than 3a and the discharge energy is small, the corrosion of the workpiece is relatively less savage, and the finished particle size will be relatively fine. When the processing current is increased to more than 6a, the particle size of the corrosion section of large current machining will be relatively rough.


Of course, there is also the relationship between workpiece material and thickness. Large thickness workpieces cannot be cut without large current and insufficient energy. For workpieces less than 20mm thick, we can even slow down the molybdenum wire walking speed and reduce the current to less than 1a. We can cut directly at one time to achieve the cutting effect of medium wire walking, and there is no need to cut many times. However, such extreme operation requires very high technical experience of machine tools and operators.


Wire cutting is a general term. Under the condition of conventional materials and thickness, the basic speed of fast wire walking is 6000mm ²/ h. About 8000 faster.


Calculation formula of wire cutting speed:


Cutting area ÷ time = speed


Processing perimeter × Height = cutting area


In other words, cutting area × Speed assembly × Processing unit price = total processing amount


Everyone who does wire cutting knows that the processing speed and finish in wire cutting are a pair of contradictions. Theoretically, the faster the speed is, the coarser the surface finish will be cut, and vice versa.


Dalian fast and slow wire cutting process uses a continuous thin metal wire moving along its axis as the tool electrode to etch the excess metal based on the electric corrosion effect of pulse discharge between the electrode wire and the workpiece, so as to meet the machining requirements of the workpiece and cut into shape. The structure of the wire cutting machine tool is shown in Figure 1. The workpiece is installed on the workbench, the electrode wire passes through the workpiece or remains parallel to the workpiece, and moves back and forth alternately driven by the wire storage cylinder through the guide wheel. The numerical control device sends out instructions according to the preset processing requirements and processing route, controls two stepping motors to drive the worktable to move in the X and Y directions, and synthesizes the trajectory of the workpiece to be processed.
